Onion Rings

"Onion Rings" an evening snack loved by most kids.
Onions contain a variety of natural chemicals that have are capable of fighting infections and healing the human body.
Probably that is the reason why Onion is used in most dishes.
This snack is not a very healthy option due to frying, but once in a while we indulge in home made deep fried snacks rather than outside food.
Its better to discard the oil once used, so use as little oil as possible even if it means frying 2-3 rings at a time.

Ingredients :
Onions - 4
Besan or Gram flour - 3 tbsp
Rice flour or corn flour - 2 tbsp ( this gives the crispiness)
Hing or Asofoetida - 1 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1 pinch
Oil for frying - 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Method :
Cut the onions in half and remove the rings of the onion.
Some parts of the onion may not be used as rings, so use them for some curry.
Now make a thick batter of hing, red chilli powder, salt, besan and rice flour. Consistency of the batter should be like of regular  dosa/pancake.
Now take a deep frying pan, add 2 tbsp of oil and when really hot, dip the onion rings into the batter and drop into the oil.
Fry till golden.
Serve hot with Mint Chutney or Ketchup.
