Lady Fish Curry or Kane Ghashi or "Nogli Ghashi" in Konkani
Lady Fish Curry or Kane Ghashi or "Nogli Ghashi" in Konkani is a very famous fish curry in coastal Karnataka mainly Mangalore and surrounding places.
A simple and easy to make curry which goes perfectly with steaming white rice.
You could alter the spiciness of the curry as per your liking, but this is one curry that tastes good both ways, when mildly spiced or highly spiced.
Serves 3
Ingredients:
Lady fish or Kane or Nogli - 6
Coconut - grated - fresh/desiccated - 1/2 cup
Roasted Dry red chilly - 4 for medium hot, and 8 for really spicy curry
Tamarind - 1 small piece
Onion - 1 - chopped
Green chilly - 1/2 for medium hot , 2 for really spicy curry
Ginger - 1/2 inch piece
Water - 1/2 cup
Coconut oil - 1 tsp (Optional)
Salt to taste
Method:
Clean and wash the fish, keep aside.
Wet grind the grated coconut, roasted dry red chillies and tamarind along with 1/2 cup water to semi smooth paste, now add the onion, green chillies and ginger and grind further to a really smooth paste.
Now take a heavy bottomed vessel, keep on low heat, add the ground paste and salt, mix well, now put the fish into this gravy slowly, bring to boil on low heat.
Smear a few drops of coconut oil just before switching off the heat.
Serve hot with steaming white rice.
